Tallahassee, FL (PRWEB) August 11, 2007 -- LearnSomething, Inc is helping pharmacists in the United Kingdom to combat the potential threat of methamphetamine (meth) manufacture using over the counter medicines containing pseudoephedrine and ephedrine, with the imminent launch of its MethGuard UK training programme2.

MethGuard UK is LearnSomething's first programme for UK pharmacy. It has been developed in partnership with The Company Chemists' Association (CCA)3, the pharmacy association that represents all the major UK pharmacy chains, including Alliance Boots, LloydsPharmacy, Tesco and Asda Walmart.

1.    LearnSomething is a Florida-based training provider that has been producing high calibre learning products for the pharmacy and grocery industries, in partnership with trade associations, professional representative bodies and regulators in The United States and Canada for 13 years. 2.    The CCA provides forum for the major UK pharmacy chains to work together to create an environment where community pharmacy can flourish, and where pharmacy businesses compete in a fair and equitable way. CCA's nine members: Alliance Boots, Co-operative Group Pharmacy, Lloydspharmacy, Tesco, J Sainsbury, Wm Morrison Supermarkets, Asda Wal-Mart, Rowlands Pharmacy and Superdrug own over 5,800 pharmacies, representing around 45% of total number of pharmacies in the United Kingdom. 3.    MethGuard UK is an awareness programme for UK pharmacy teams that builds on the strengths of the US MethGuard and Canadian MethWatch programmes and incorporates the insights gained from working with regulators and pharmacy associations in these countries, whilst taking into account the differences in the UK regulatory and practice environment. LearnSomething is facilitating access to all UK pharmacies and locums through a range of innovative marketing partnerships (see below). Pharmacy chains who want to publish a customised version to their staff, own branded and including company specific policies and procedures can also purchase a bespoke company specific MethGuard programme for a small additional cost.

The key features of the MethGuard UK are as follows:

?    It is a highly credible resource. Its forerunners have delivered learning events to over 65,000 pharmacists and support staff;

?     It takes no more than half an hour of self study to complete;

?    It follows the framework and learning objectives specified for UK educational awareness programmes on pseudoephedrine and methylamphetamine, developed jointly by the UK pharmacy bodies and OTC industry;

?    It will be available in a number of learning formats, including on-line, paper based and CD-Rom from mid August 2007;

?    It will cost no more than £6 per person for the course (£5 for on-line completion). It is estimated therefore that in an average pharmacy, all relevant staff can be trained for well under £100;

?    Its development has been supported by Johnson and Johnson and Glaxo Smith Klein Consumer Healthcare, working through the Proprietary Association of Great Britain, and by UK pharmacy organisations, most notably the CCA and AIMp.
